Advisory

Rather than being assigned one guidance counselor to check in with once or twice a year, every student at Impact has an Advisor who they meet with four times a week. Advisors work with groups of 20-25 students and serve as their advocate at school. Advisors help students stay organized, set college goals, and they act as the primary contact between the school and families. Students often refer to their Advisory as their “family” at Impact. Our vision is  Build trusting relationships that support students in becoming confident and productive global citizens.

Work Learning Experience (WLE)

The Work Learning Experience program at Impact Academy offers our students invaluable opportunities to gain real-world work experience through internships in professional settings. As many of our students will be the first in their families to attend college, they often lack connections with professionals who hold advanced degrees. This program bridges that gap by providing authentic work experiences and facilitating exposure to mentors in fields of interest. Our partnerships with local businesses play a crucial role in this initiative, creating meaningful connections between students and the community. These partnerships not only enhance students’ professional skills but also broaden their networks and open doors to future career opportunities. By integrating community involvement with educational goals, we ensure that our students are well-prepared and connected as they embark on their college and career journeys.

Portfolio Defenses

Our 10th and 12th grade graduate portfolio defenses are a cornerstone of our academic program, serving as a capstone presentation of each student’s learning journey. These comprehensive defenses are designed around our graduate profile competences, showcasing students’ mastery in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Throughout the defense process, students present their portfolios—culminating in a reflective and rigorous evaluation of their academic achievements, personal growth, and readiness for post-secondary challenges. This dynamic presentation not only highlights their readiness for college and career but also emphasizes their ability to synthesize and apply knowledge in real-world contexts. The graduate portfolio defenses embody our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, capable individuals who are prepared to excel beyond graduation.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions provide a dynamic platform for students in grades 9-12 to showcase their learning and achievements. These presentations of learning offer students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and creative talents through engaging projects and interactive displays. Each exhibition highlights students’ growth and accomplishments, creating a culture of pride and intellectual curiosity. By sharing their work with peers, educators, and families, students not only celebrate their academic journey but also develop essential presentation and communication skills that prepare them for future success.

Full Inclusion

Full inclusion means integrating students with diverse learning needs into general education classrooms alongside their peers. It involves adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate various abilities, ensuring all students receive a high-quality education in a shared learning environment. At Impact Academy, our full inclusion model ensures that all students learn together in general education classrooms. By providing personalized support and differentiated instruction, we create an environment where every student can thrive academically and socially. This approach reflects our commitment to equal access to academic and social opportunities, promoting a supportive and collaborative atmosphere where every student can succeed.
