At Impact Academy, we see every school day as an opportunity to build community with our students and create rich learning experiences. Here’s what a Day in the Life of an Impact student looks like:
Welcome to Impact Academy
7:00-8:30 AM
Before class at IAHS, we spend time connecting with friends, chatting with the principals who are walking around, and, sometimes, finishing last minute homework assignments! When the bell rings, we head to class and say “Hi!” to each teacher as we enter the room.
8:30 At IAHS
In first period Geometry, students are working on measuring angles. We use our math skills to solve real-world problems like determining the best location to build a cellphone tower. Doing projects, including learning how to collaborate with others is an important part of life at IAHS!
9:45 At IAHS
In second period AP Environmental Science, seniors are examining owl pellets to learn about food webs. “Owl pellet” is a nice way of saying “owl feces.” It’s gross, but fun! Every student at IAHS takes at least two AP classes and we offer many more!
10:55 At IAHS
It’s the 10-minute break! We catch up with friends and have a snack as we head to third period.
11:05 AM
In 9th grade Biology, students are rehearsing presentations for their Biome Artifacts. They’ve conducted research to learn about the biotic and abiotic factors that contribute to a biome.
Lunch Time!
12:10 PM
Lunch is the best! During lunch we get to hang out in the sun and share food. Some Spartans play basketball or soccer and our volleyball team loves to bring out the net and challenge the teachers to a game!
12:50 PM
Advisory is where we get to learn about ourselves and each other. We play games and hold circles. We do lots of silly things like preparing for lip sync battles in Community Meetings. We also do hard work like preparing for our defenses and, in 11th and 12th grades, participating in internships.
1:20 PM
4th period! In 10th grade World History class students are researching and performing acts of resistance that happened during the Holocaust. Talking about social justice issues like power in privilege is a daily part of learning at Impact.
2:35 PM
In Algebra, an ambassador from SMASH, a summer STEM program offered by Stanford University, shares information with 9th graders. Each year, a group of Spartans attends the program to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering, and math! Two 10th grade SMASH alumni are there to answer questions.
END OF DAY
The day doesn’t end at the final bell! After school, you can find Spartans participating in clubs, sports, and attending office hours! Some examples include our Robotics Team- the Immortal Engines, MeChA, and the Video Game Club.
