Ryan Lax, Impact Academy
College: Cal State University East Bay

Ryan is Impact Academy’s 2018 winner of the Bob Lenz “PDO” Scholarship.

Ryan exemplifies all that it means to be a Spartan and a Scholar-Athlete. As a first-generation college student, he made the most of his time at Impact Academy, and took full advantage of his education. As a student, he was always respectful to his teachers and his peers, all while maintaining a level of self-motivation that allowed him to succeed academically. He understands what it means to be a critical thinker, a collaborative worker, and a powerful communicator. He’s been described by staff as someone who: “has a heart and soul filled with love and kindness.” With those attributes, we are confident that Ryan will succeed and thrive as he enrolls in Cal State University East Bay this fall. The CSUEB Pioneers are lucky to have him!

ABOUT THE BOB LENZ “PDO” SCHOLARSHIP
The Bob Lenz PDO Scholarship award of $1000 is given each year to one graduating senior from each school site who exemplifies the Calvin Coolidge phrase: “Persistence and Determination alone are Omnipotent (PDO).”  Erin Brockovich made these words her motto in her successful campaign to expose toxic water tables in the Central Valley.  Bob and his Envision co-founders adopted the motto as well, applying it to Envision’s tireless work to help students develop the persistence and determination to succeed in college. Each of our award-winning students:
  • Has gone through significant hardship and persisted through adversity;
  • Has been accepted to and plans to attend a 4-year university or college.
