How do I access these services?
Students and families who would like to know how to access these services should talk to the student’s advisor.
Impact Academy takes the term “home room” to a whole new level. Every student at Impact is part of an advisory class during each year of high school. This group becomes a refuge for students even within the tight-knit community the school already creates. In these special classes, students participate in important academic-related activities like state testing, college prep, and portfolio presentations, but also community building activities like trust games, field trips and sharing their high school experiences. Students and families should always talk to their advisor first if they have a concern or question.
MAS (Mandatory After School)
Any student with a failing grade in any class is required to stay after school for MAS until the grade is raised. Students work quietly in the classroom to complete missing work, and teachers are available for one on one help. Advisors will notify students if they need to attend MAS. Furthermore, all teachers will hold office hours after school for students who need additional help.
180 Degrees Mentor Program
Impact is thrilled to partner with the 180 Degrees Program, which is founded on the belief that social, emotional, and academic growth and learning are interdependent and the most effective learning environment is one that intentionally harnesses the synergy that results when all of these key components are blended together. Each 9th grade advisory class is assigned a 180 mentor who implements powerful curriculum designed to support students through the social-emotional challenges of high school. Envision Schools’ Department of Special Education’s mission is to provide students with diverse learning needs to have access to supports that provide educational opportunity at a rigorous, college prep high school. Envision Schools supports all special education students according to state and federal laws. No student is denied admission because (s)he is in need of special education services.
- We believe that special education is a service not a place and that all students have the right to be fully included in the general education classrooms with their typical peers for the greatest extent possible.
- We believe in Individualized Education Program (IEP) team members collaborating to develop an appropriate plan that documents their areas of need related to their disability, culturally relevant supports the student needs, and goals associated with areas of need.

Parent Guide to Special Education
What is Special Education?
- Special education is a term used by the law to describe the specialized academic instruction that meets the unique needs of a child who has a disability that impairs his/her ability to succeed in the general education environment. These services are provided by the public school system and are free.
- Envision Schools and Impact Academy are part of the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). This means we do not belong to Hayward Unified School District for the purposes of providing special education. New students are processed as Inter-District Transfers and each student transferring to Impact will have an IEP meeting in the first thirty days of the students attendance.

Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
- The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is a state mandated consortium of parents, teachers, administrators and community members who work on behalf of students received special education services in our Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) and meets three times per academic year.
- Under California Ed Code, the CAC team “shall have the authority and fulfill the responsibilities that are defined for it in the local plan. The responsibilities shall include, but need not be limited to, all the following:
(a) Advising the policy and administrative entity of the special education local plan area regarding the development, amendment, and review of the local plan. The entity shall review and consider the comments from the community and advisory committee;
(b) Recommending annual priorities to be addressed by the plan;
(c) Assisting in parent education and in recruiting parents and other volunteers who may contribute to the implementation of the plan;
(d) Encouraging community involvement in the development and review of the local plan;
(e) Supporting activities on behalf of individuals with exceptional needs;
(f) Assisting in parent awareness of the importance of regular school attendance.”

RTI – Does your child need help?
- Response to Intervention (RTI) is a way to help students experiencing difficulty in school. RTI supports academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs through systems of data analysis, problem solving, instruction and intervention.
- RTI is not a program, but a process: a way to identify students who are at risk, why they are struggling and how the family and school can support them together as a community.
- A Student Study Team (SST) is a team centered around problem solving difficulties your child may be having.
- All children develop at different rates and ways. If you suspect that your child may have a disability or you are interested in learning more about our RTI process or Student Study Teams (SST) for your child, please contact your school’s Principal or Vice Principal of Student Support to discuss your concerns.
